Kovalam Beach Chennai - Covelong Beach:

Covelong Beach is popularly called as Kovalam Beach. If we tell Kovalam Beach to people in South Tamilnadu will think about Kovalam beach in Trivandrum only. Most of them are not aware of Kovalam Beach in Chennai. Even I came to know about Kovalam beach in Chennai only after I relocated to Chennai from Tirunelveli. After residing in 6 years in Chennai, I went to Kovalam beach before 1 month only since Tiruvanmiyur beach was the nearest one from my place at that time. I love Tiruvanmiyur beach very much. It is a very decent beach to go with the family. 90% of the visitors will come as family only. Now, I want to share my experience about Kovalam Beach - Covelong beach here.

Where is Kovalam Beach:

Kovalam beach is located in East Coast Road(ECR) in Chennai. It is a fishing village located 40 kms south of Chennai. It is well connected by buses from all parts of city. I have heard that we can go for paid boating and wind surfing there. But I have not seen it when I went.

Is Kovalam beach Chennai good to visit?

Kovalam beach is a very beautiful place by nature. The beach is safe to visit since it has lot of local crowds there and some people come from other places too since it is on the way to Mahabalipuram. But the people who do not think about environment cleanliness and who do not care about protecting the nature spoiled the beach totally. It was so dirty. Not only me, every one in my apartment thinks that they will not go there again. The pictures speak more about it.

I hope the government, volunteers and other nonprofit organizations take effort to clean the beach now and then. But the people did not maintain it. They threw all kind of things starting from plastic covers to beer bottles.





I really felt bad to walk over there even in the sandals. We went with our kid taking a ball to play with him. But the place was not suitable.

If you are going with family and looking for a clean, decent and beautiful beach, please check with someone nearby whether the Chennai Kovalam beach is cleaned before going.

Will I go to Kovalam beach again?

No till the beach is cleaned and visitors care about maintaining it.
