If there is one place in Chennai that is not missed by school tours and trips to Chennai, it is nothing but Birla Planetarium Chennai. Not only the kids, people who are interested in Astronomy can have a nice visit to this Planetarium. Though it needs a renovation, it is a very interesting place to visit where you can come out with an improved knowledge. It provides a virtual tour of the night sky and cosmic shows on a perforated hemispherical aluminium inner dome.

Birla Planetarium was built in 1988, in the memory of B.M.Birla. It is considered to be the most modern planetarium in India. It is located inside the Periyar Science and Technology Centre campus.

Birla Planetarium is open on all the weekdays including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
It is closed only on Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi.

How to reach Birla Planetarium Chennai?

Bus Route - You can either catch Kotturpuram bus or any bus travelling via Anna University, IIT Madras, Gandhi National Park and it is located in walkable distance. You can take an auto if you want. You have to go via Gandhi Mandapam Road located near Anna University.

Train Route - You can take any train going via Kotturpuram MRTS station. Or else you can get down in Kasthuri Bai MRTS station and take an auto.
