For example, if you are going to do a vehicle registration details search for a bike or car that is registered in 'Kerala' state, you have to search for 'Kerala RTO Website' in Google.
Mostly the official RTO website ranks first in the search results. Click on the website.
In our example, as we are searching for vehicle owner details for a car or bike that is registered in Kerala state, I searched for 'Kerala RTO Website' in Google. The below website is ranked higher which is the RTO website of Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. It is also called as Kerala MVD website.
For car or bike registered in Kerala state, the website is http://keralamvd.gov.in/
For car or bike registered in AP state, the website is https://aptransport.in
Step 3 - Find vehicle owner details:
This step might be a simple one for vehicles registered in states that provide vehicle owner details in website publicly.
For example, finding out vehicle registration details in Kerala and AP are currently simpler as the respective RTOs have the information publicly available in their RTO website. This is not the case for all the states. In such case where the vehicle owner details is not publicly available, you have to find the RTO first and then you have to visit the RTO directly for seeking information.
Case 1 - Vehicle Owner details search in RTO website:
First you have to visit the particular state website to check whether the vehicle owner details information is readily available.
Check the website for an option for the 'vehicle registration details search'. If it is available, use the option to check vehicle registration details.
For example, vehicles registered in MP can be easily searched by visiting the following link - http://mis.mptransport.org/MPLogin/eSewa/VehicleSearch.aspx.
If it not available, find out the RTO first. The next two digits after the state code is the RTO office code.
Example:
Let us say you are doing a vehicle registration search for a car or bike with the registration number as 'TN 01 A XXXX'.
1. As the first step, find out the state from the table given in the first step. TN denotes that the car or bike is registered in an RTO in Tamil Nadu state.
2. Next we will search for 'Tamil Nadu RTO website' in Google.
3. I am not able to find any link to search vehicle owner details.
4. Next step is to find out the RTO. To find out the RTO, check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RTO_districts_in_India. In our case, it is TN 01. So, search for TN-01 which will give you the RTO office in which bike or car is registered.
In our example, when I searched for TN-01, I come to know that the vehicle is registered in Chennai Central RTO.
There is another website to help you on finding RTO directly is available. http://vehicletracking.firm.in/ is a website that can be sued to find the RTO in one click.
Just give vehicle registration number in the search box and click on the 'Go' button. RTO and state details are displayed below the search box.
If the need for knowing the vehicle owner and registration details is genuine, the RTO might help us. Agents, insurance offices and banks have easy access to all vehicle owner details in India.
